A systematic review of empirical studies on multidisciplinary design collaboration: Findings, methods, and challenges

While multidisciplinary collaboration is increasingly considered as a prerequisite for innovation in design, it unclear what has been studied and to investigate next. To address this, we conducted systematic literature review on design collaboration, focussing found, how these studies have implemented. Following PRISMA approach, 17 papers were selected critical review. A co-occurrence analysis found that the covered five themes centred communication, all highlighting importance of shared understanding collaboration. Further revealed biases differences between methodological approach followed studies. For future research, suggest investigating two under-explored areas collaboration: distributed work digital/service-oriented activities.
